    • Violence and harassment at work are serious problems that affect people's health and well-being. These activities are contrary to human dignity and can have a negative impact on the psychological and physical health of those who suffer them.

Violence at work can include physical assault, intimidation, threats or other forms of direct violence. Harassment at work may include verbal abuse, defamation, unwanted sexual advances, unwanted surveillance or other forms of psychological pressure.

The negative effects of violence and harassment at work can include increased stress, anxiety, depression, reduced self-confidence, isolation and health problems such as hypertension, sleep problems and respiratory problems.

To protect against violence and harassment at work, it is important to have appropriate policies and procedures in place to deal with these situations. Workers should be informed of their rights and report any cases of violence or harassment to the competent company or labour authorities.

In addition, raising awareness, training and promoting a culture of respect and tolerance in the workplace can help prevent violence and harassment. Employees should recognise the signs of such behaviour and take action to protect themselves and their colleagues.

    • SEV : A guide for businesses.
Harassment and violence at work SEV has issued a practical guide for the implementation of the provisions of Law 4808/2021 on the treatment of violence and harassment at work, codifying the behaviours that fall under the provisions of the law, the obligations of companies, the way in which complaints are handled, the rights of the affected persons, as well as the sanctions provided for offenders.
"The full implementation of the provisions of Law 4808/2021 is expected to contribute to the promotion of the aforementioned objectives, with mutual benefits for both companies and employees, workers and other categories of persons falling within the scope of application", the guide stresses.
The guide was presented at an event organised by SEV, in the context of which the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs responsible for Demographic Policy and Family Issues, Maria Syregnella, stressed that for the government the issue of preventing and combating violence and harassment at work is a priority, while she outlined initiatives that the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has implemented to create in practice an integrated matrix of actions for the prevention, treatment and suppression of violence and harassment at work.
The Director General of SEV, Alexandros Hatzopoulos, stressed that "for SEV - beyond a matter of principle and values - the creation of a culture and a way of operating businesses, which will strengthen trust between businesses and employees and all related issues are at the core of the modern issues of business. As we have done in the past on many issues, we are interested in the spirit and not just the letter of regulation. In the case of the prevention of violence and harassment at work, our ambition is that we and our member companies should be the guardians here too.
Ioulia Tseti, member of the Board of Directors of SEV and head of the Group for Diversity, Inclusion and Equality, pointed out that businesses, especially those with a global orientation, must now include similar concepts in their value system and promote attitudes of absolute respect for human dignity. "As a society, we have at our disposal a plethora of international and European treaties, and with Law No. 4808/21 and national legislation that fully supports us. It is up to us to take the actions needed and improve the working environment as much as possible, for the benefit of both companies and workers. We should thoroughly explain this new action and policy to businesses, so that employees become part of the project and not only employers", she concluded her intervention.
